The application for the former Weylands Treatment Works site proposes to transform the existing waste and commercial layout, which has been long-established on the site but falls outside of the control of the planning system. A modern commercial estate with a separate affordable housing area is proposed, designed to the highest environmental standards with supporting transport and green infrastructure. The development offers a unique opportunity to improve and enhance the local area, restore land at the eastern end of the site to high performing Green Belt and to provide a catalyst for regeneration and enhancement of the adjoining Hersham Trading Estate.
As you may be aware, in July 2022, Northumberland Estates held a consultation event to showcase our vision for the Estate. As a result of feedback from residents, Council officers and consultees, the scheme was refined and in November 2022, a planning application was submitted.
Since the submission of the application, there has been further refinements of the proposals, principally in the form of a tailored package of off-site Highways improvements (including the crossing at Hersham station and traffic calming on Rydens Road), which have evolved through engagement with Surrey County Council Highways throughout 2023.
